Original Oil painting by Will Astley Maberly The Nkupe sentinel is a baobab that over looks the Nkupe flood plain, sitting on a ridge she has been watching over the comings and goings of the area for centuries and when walking around her the foundations of houses built by the ancients can be found as well as bits of pottery and signs of life. The belief is that they stayed up here to avoid being flooded. She is hollow and I am sure there have been many different types of animals that have lived in side her from Bees to leopards and perhaps the odd human. She has witnessed life and death, peace and war ! She is the sentry of the floodplain! Tread Lightly Will Astley Maberly .
